  1. Consumer ethical beliefs and personality traits: An exploratory analysis. [REVIEW]Kumar C. Rallapalli, Scott J. Vitell, Frank A. Wiebe & James H. Barnes - 1994 - Journal of Business Ethics 13 (7):487 - 495.
The present study examines the relationships between consumers'' ethical beliefs and personality traits. Based on a survey of 295 undergraduate business students, the authors found that individuals with high needs for autonomy, innovation, and aggression, as well as individuals with a high propensity for taking risks tend to have less ethical beliefs concerning possible consumer actions. Individuals with a high need for social desirability and individuals with a strong problem solving coping style tend to have more ethical beliefs concerning possible (...)

On characterizing solution for multi-objective fractional two-stage solid transportation problem under fuzzy environment.Hamiden Abd El-Wahed Khalifa, Pavan Kumar & Majed G. Alharbi - 2021 - Journal of Intelligent Systems 30 (1):620-635.
This article attempts to study cost minimizing multi-objective fractional solid transportation problem with fuzzy cost coefficients c ˜ i j k r {\tilde{c}}_{ijk}^{r}, fuzzy supply quantities a ˜ i {\tilde{a}}_{i}, fuzzy demands b ˜ j {\tilde{b}}_{j}, and/or fuzzy conveyances e ˜ k {\tilde{e}}_{k}. The fuzzy efficient concept is introduced in which the crisp efficient solution is extended. A necessary and sufficient condition for the solution is established. Fuzzy geometric programming approach is applied to solve the crisp problem by defining membership (...)

Domesticating the “New Terrorism”: The Case of the Maoist Insurgency in India.Pavan Kumar Malreddy - 2014 - The European Legacy 19 (5):590-605.
In this essay, I argue that the Indian state’s response to the Maoist insurgency has been ideologically shaped by the “new terrorism” discourse cultivated by Western powers, particularly by the United States. Following the post-9/11 othering of Islamic terrorism as a trope of a “civilizational clash” between East and West, the Indian state has strategically demarcated the regions affected by the Maoist armed insurgency as the “Red Corridor,” conceiving the insurgency as “the single biggest threat to the internal security of (...)

An analytical study on social responsibility performance evaluation as an accounting measure of management efficiency.Sugan C. Jain, Dilip Kumar Sen, Muinuddin Khan & Swapan Kumar Bala - 2007 - AI and Society 21 (3):251-266.
This paper is a portrayal of how social responsibility performance evaluation can act as an accounting measure of management efficiency. In fact, it has given much importance to socio-economic and socio-human obligations to others. The paper attempts to show that these days there is a great need to emphasise more clearly social responsibility, which the corporate sector can and should undertake. The theme of the paper is that the scope of corporate social responsibility encompasses not only economic well-being but also (...)

Ethics in Social Research and Its Impact on Policy Implication, Planning and Development.Profulla C. Sarker & Uttam Kumar Das - 2020 - Bangladesh Journal of Bioethics 11 (1):40.
This paper is an attempt to discuss how ethics associated with social research in connection with the collection of authentic and reliable data, use of appropriate data process and impartial data analysis for preparing an acceptable research report. Ethics is closely related to moral integrity, and values associated with appropriate methods and techniques applied for collection of reliable and authentic information that ensure the trust worthy research findings. This paper is based on secondary data collected through reviewing the relevant literatures. (...)

    Reticulo-cortical activity and behavior: A critique of the arousal theory and a new synthesis.C. H. Vanderwolf & T. E. Robinson - 1981 - Behavioral and Brain Sciences 4 (3):459-476.
It is traditionally believed that cerebral activation (the presence of low voltage fast electrical activity in the neocortex and rhythmical slow activity in the hippocampus) is correlated with arousal, while deactivation (the presence of large amplitude irregular slow waves or spindles in both the neocortex and the hippocampus) is correlated with sleep or coma. However, since there are many exceptions, these generalizations have only limited validity. Activated patterns occur in normal sleep (active or paradoxical sleep) and during states of anesthesia (...)

With the increasing prices of newly approved anti-cancer treatments contributing to rising healthcare costs, healthcare systems are facing complex economic and ethical dilemmas. Especially in countries with universal access and mandatory health insurance, including many European countries, the organizing of funding or reimbursement of expensive new treatments can be challenging. When expensive anti-cancer treatments are deemed safe and effective, but are not (yet) reimbursed, ethical dilemmas arise. In countries with universal healthcare systems, such as the Netherlands, this gives rise to (...)

    Properties and operational propositions in quantum mechanics.C. H. Randall & D. J. Foulis - 1983 - Foundations of Physics 13 (8):843-857.
In orthodox quantum mechanics, it has virtually become the custom to identify properties of a physical system with operationally testable propositions about the system. The causes and consequences of this practice are explored mathematically in this paper. Among other things, it is found that such an identification imposes severe constraints on the admissible states of the physical system.

  47. Atomism, Lynceus, and the Fate of Seventeenth-Century Microscopy.C. H. Lüthy - 1996 - Early Science and Medicine 1 (1):1-27.
Recent scholarship, focusing on the rapid decline of microscopy after the late 1680's, has shown that the limitations of microscopy and the ambivalent meaning of its findings led to a wide-spread sense of frustration with the new instrument. The present article tries to connect this fall from favor with the microscope's equally surprising but hitherto little noticed late rise to prominence. The crucial point is that when the microscope, more than a decade after the telescope, finally managed to arouse the (...)
